Undo : Redo
This solo dance work is a dive into the transforming detail of imagery, the composure and release, the weight of waiting.
Between femininity and power there is a world that I inhabit, exploring the subtle space gathered between these forms.
The space you take and the words you choose; They move through space, through people and they do have weight.
But my identity will not be provided by a transcript of ideas, tried on and forced to fit.
Until one day, a seam splits. And I am here real and exposed.
My undoing made only by my redoing.
This piece of spoken word created specifically for the work has served as a stimulus for a physical language development explored during creative and performative processes.
By saying these words aloud; I experience both vulnerability and power in which ownership and authenticity fluctuates between myself and the audience. This shifting dynamic is then further explored through my movement language and use of space in an intimate traverse setting.
The work has developed from physical research of notions of power set against the backdrop of femininity; exploring how the two elements can interweave both cohesively and non-cohesively. What does it mean to be empowered or to have power? Can softness relate to power and be used to empower?
I utilise movement and spoken work in this intimate piece that invites the audience to enjoy the detail of the moving body within the traverse setting.
